Pretty and Pink

One of the most frequently asked questions at Creativity was "how do I use backing paper?"

These three cards are from the Creativity archive and they are simple examples for using backing papers to decorate card fronts.

Grab a pen and doodle

Not sure what to do today? Grab a pen and doodle.

This is a page from my Art Journal. A simply doodled border decorated with imaginary flowers.

A relaxing way to pass the time.

Don't forget to use archival pens if you use the page for scrapbooking.

Go on grab a pen!

Surprise!

Look at the lovely card that I received from Chris and Janet, notice the square fold (top left)?

The silver holographic card sparkles under the lights and the silver foiled pink card is so pretty.

Untie the ribbon bow......Surprise!

A beautiful way to wrap a gift of scented candles. Thank you ladies.

I have shared these on my blog because I thought would make a lovely gift for Mothers Day.

A little surprise for the weekend

It's hard to believe that a year ago I decided to close the shop and follow a different career path. I will always cherish the years I had at Creativity but it is so nice to be able to spend creative time making what ever I like, however I like, rather than keep up with the trends of today.

As I mentioned in a previous post I have collected stamps for years and this project uses small stamps that I bought at the Craft Barn in Lingfield when Maggie Wright was the owner.

Once the project is complete I will bind it using my Bind It All Machine, this is the front cover.

The background paper is a delicate olive with bursts of lilac and pink, sooo pretty.

The reverse of the paper is olive green the same design as the front but very subtle, perfect for the inside of my book cover.

As you open the cover this is what you see. A fairy in the grounds of the Castle. Every piece of foliage and flower is stamped and the flowers are coloured in a variety of colours using pencils.

Its deceptive because I have shaped the pages so they are layered and I have made "holes" so you can look through into the distance telling a story.

As I lift the page you can see the fairy stands out and the "hole" is a hand cut aperture revealing the
garden to the castle in the background.

Can you make out the buttercups, dandelion clocks and honeysuckle in the background?

The next section shows another fairy in the garden, a Well is stamped in the background.

As I lift the page you can see that I have left an edge around the right side of the fairy, I may stamp under her legs and behind her back, alternatively I could cut out those sections.

I plan to find some fairy sayings to lay over these backing pages, I might put them on acetate or vellum I haven't decided yet. The Well stamp is from the Stampendous range.

The fairies I have used so far are from Stamps Happen and the houses on the pages above and below are from Woodware's range.

I have a bit of work to go pages aren't complete, for example I haven't finished colouring this one and I need to decide how to decorate the reverse of the pages but I'm happy so far. What do you think?

A little cutie

The last year or two has seen an increase in the size of handmade cards but sometimes small is appropriate.

This little card is a 4" square, just the right size to leave a note through a neighbour or friends door. The three bird houses have been stamped and the design is coloured with pencils then a little glitter is added. Edging the design in several coordinating layers brings out the pencil colours.

Another 4" square card has been used for these two cute hedgehogs. The bumblebee backing paper was shop bought but you could create something similar with a small stamp.

Once again I have used pencils to colour the design and added a little glitter added to the bumble bee wings adds a touch of sparkle. Both designs were made using stamps from Penny Black.

Thank you

If you want to create but are not sure where to start how about making some thank you cards? A few cards are always handy, you could even make a set to give as a gift.

This pretty card was given to me by Janet and Chris who often visited Creativity. The main card is a luxurious opal pearlescent card which has been lightly distressed using a soft brush, olive green and rusty coloured ink over the edge of a Dreamweaver Picasso stencil to give a cloud effect.

Two shades of glitter card have been die cut into a delicate flower display and vase. The Thank you is a gold peel-off.

The following card was given to me by a friend, the 3d butterfly is made from two butterfly images. (Layer the 2 designs, only sticking the top butterfly along its body and bending the wings forward it creates a dimensional effect.)

The border of the picture and greeting is nicely coordinated with the butterfly. Crisp white card and four dark grey spots finish the card in style.

Another stylish card this time made by Sandra has been stamped in three shades of green which Sandra has coordinated beautifully with the card and mounts.

In each example simple colour schemes have been used, the main pictures are crisp and there is a mixture of sticker, printed and stamped greeting. Choose your favourite colours to work with and try a couple of colours or images that you have not used before.

Make a deep box for a few cards and their envelopes or wrap them in tissue and tie with some string or pretty ribbon to make a nice gift or donation to a charity shop.

Make A Wish

A pretty design suitable for many occasions. The stamp is embossed with versamark ink and detail embossing powder. Subtle colouring using zig pens and a water brush. Once dry add a few gems.

My Spring Project

This is a cover for my spring project, bright and colourful paper with bold flower and insect designs.

I have lovingly collected drawers of stamps, some are easily 25 years old, others hold memories following workshops at Creativity and a few were treasured gifts from family and friends.

The two images on the left were my first stamps. I brought the six on the right at a table sale before I became involved in Creativity. Flower stamps are great designs to buy in the early days of crafting because they can be coloured in so many colours and you can use paints, pens, pencils - anything goes.

Have you guessed what my project is yet?

How about a stamp album recording all my stamps in themes? If I can get them stamped through the spring and summer I can spend evenings in the autumn colouring a few of the designs to add interest to the pages. Bound with the Bind It All machine it would make an interesting coffee table book when finished.

Fabulous at 70!

With someone special in mind I set about making a 70th birthday card. Fortunately the guy in mind loves gardening so I started looking through my bits and bobs box and this is what I came up with.

A garden chair, a shed, tree, bushes, flowers and apples. A brilliant 12x12 backing paper with a vegetable design purchased from http://www.amom.co.uk/

The house and grapes design at the back is a Woodware stamp (it reminds me of a vineyard) the sun is punched paper. The garden images are stuck on strips to build up a dimensional picture.

Doesn't the vegetable backing paper work well with the theme? Can you see the garden shed behind the apple tree? A touch of glitter to make it sparkle is a the finishing touch.
